Abstract. During the archeological study of monumental buildings of the princely era (10–15th centuries), almost every monument has natural stones as a building material. One of such examples is offered – walls of 12th century. Pechersk Monastery. They were first studied in 1951, and then three more times in different areas. At each of the excavations in the foundation, ditches recorded natural stones, which was part of their filling. A particular petrografi study was conducted only in 2018 in the Museum of Ceology National Taras Shevchenko University of Kyiv. The obtained information allows not only to reconstruct the stages of construction of the walls in the second half of the XII century partially, but also to obtain data on the economic life of the monastery. |
Keywords: archaeology, fortification, Pechersk monastery, walls, natural stones. |
